Fence Lizard on Her Face

By Joanne McNeil Hayes
Sceloporus occidentalis, for Bob

Fence lizard sunning on her face

sounds like a worrisome thing

but with sweet pearly eyes and

soft sticky bare feet

it clings to her cheek for a rest.

So there is no need to hide

from a critter dressed in

yellow striped pants

and sparkling blue vest

who stops by for just a brief visit.
